Pacific University today will make a pitch to give Forest Grove’s Lincoln Park a dramatic facelift, providing new facilities for the school’s growing athletics program and an extra field or two for local recreation leagues.
The proposal, which will be unveiled at the city’s Recreation Commission meeting this evening, will keep the park property in city ownership, according to Tom Gamble, who heads the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Gamble said the university would pick up the tab for the renovations, which would be made throughout the 22.5-acre park, except for the north end, where the skate park is located.
The centerpiece of the project would be a nine-lane NCAA-sized track facility, with a synthetic infield big enough to accommodate soccer and football fields.
Although details of the proposal won’t be presented until tonight, Gamble said the city will not lose any existing facilities, such as tennis courts or the skate park, and should gain a ball field or two in addition to the new track facility.
