Just as Forest Grove School District officials were announcing the reopening of schools after a two-day closure due to a swine flu scare last Tuesday, a second student at Cornelius Elementary School was diagnosed with the H1N1 virus.
Principal Perla Rodriguez said the child, whose case was confirmed May 5, was not in the same classroom as the original case, which came to light May 1. Both students are recovered and back in school, Rodriguez said Monday.
She added that it was “quite a coincidence” that the second case was confirmed on the same afternoon that officials from the federal Centers for Disease Prevention and Control advised schools not to close their doors in the wake of suspected H1N1 cases.
