ADVERTISEMENTS
Forest Grove officials will dedicate their new ceremonial flag at 10 a.m. Monday at the small public parcel at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Maple Street.
Those who wish to attend the Memorial Day ceremony are encouraged to park at the Ballad Town Shopping Center (home of Safeway) just east of the flagpole site.
The 30- by 60-foot flag is one of several donated by the Coon family to honor the community’s support of their family veterinary business and to honor members of the armed services.
City officials say it will be flown on all federal holidays, weather permitting.
The family is also donating a smaller flag that will be flown most days and a severe weather flag designed to withstand high winds.
An article in last week’s News-Times quoted a city official saying that the Coons requested to fly the ceremonial flag on days of significance to the family. Family members told the paper last week that they have no such plans.
In addition to the flag and flagpole, the Coon family also donated a lighting system for the flag. Until the lights are installed, the flags will be taken down each night, officials have said.

Re: Flag dedication set for Monday
What a spectacular sight driving into Forest Grove!! The flag is absolutely beautiful. The flag blowing in the spring evening breeze took my breath away and made me beam with pride to be an American. Thank you for
