It started out as a standard cab fare. A trip to the coast with a friend, $250 in cash up front.
But by afternoon, the cab was parked on the side of Highway 6 in the Coast Range, with the driver and a passenger stabbed.
Tillamook County Sheriff Todd Anderson said John Keinonen, of Hillsboro, hired Brian Alcorn, of Beaverton, to drive him to the coast in a Pacificab.
Along the way, they picked up Kent Docken, 49, at his house in Timber, northwest of Manning.
Alcorn drove the pair to a number of bars in Tillamook and Garibaldi before heading back to Washington County.
But before they crossed the county line, Docken stabbed his friend, Keinonen, and Alcorn – then jumped out of the car.
An Oregon Department of Forestry worker saw the cab parked on the side of the road and called 9-1-1. Police arrived 15 minutes later and found the two wounded men in the cab.
Docken was located a short distance from the car, walking in some bushes.
“Because of his level of intoxication he was easy to find,” Anderson said.
Alcorn escaped the assault with minor injuries, but Keinonen was flown to Legacy Emanuel Hospital by LifeFlight helicopter.
Anderson said both men were stabbed in the chest while the cab was moving, but Alcorn was able to pull the car over and park it.
Alcorn was treated at the scene for his injuries.
Docken was scheduled to be arraigned in Tillamook County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon on assault charges.
