Firefighters in Forest Grove and Cornelius are stepping up efforts to round up toys for youngsters in need this holiday season.
“Unfortunately the demand for toys is at an all-time high,” said Matt Johnston, fire inspector with Forest Grove Fire & Rescue.
Firefighters expect to distribute toys to about 700 children in the Forest Grove and Cornelius area this year.
“Our firefighters work hard to make certain that donations to the Firefighter’s Toy Drive stay in our community helping local children receive new toys during this holiday season,” Johnston said.
Toy donations can be made at the following Forest Grove businesses: Pac Thai, TipTop Spa and Boutique, John L. Scott Market Center, Pizza Schmizza, Stephanie Lommen Attorney at Law, The Friendly Vine (formerly The Wine Behren) or Ballad Town Billiards.
In Cornelius, donations can be made at the following businesses: Cornelius City Hall, Cornelius Chamber of Commerce, Walgreens, Basco’s Burgers and Grande Foods.
Firefighters are also gathering non-perishable food donations at their two fire stations.
Food or toys can be dropped off at the Forest Grove Fire Station, 1919 Ash St., or the Cornelius Fire Station, located at 1311 N. Barlow St.
Families in need of assistance can stop by either station to sign up for help. Firefighters will start taking applications from families in need Nov. 23. Families who need aid should contact firefighters by Dec. 11.
Those needing help can also call the Forest Grove Fire Station at 503-992-3240, or the Cornelius Fire Station at 503-357-3840.
