An elderly Gaston-area resident awoke in time to flee her house fire in the pre-dawn hours last Friday morning.

The single-family rental home on SW Noblitt Place in the Laurelwood area was fully ablaze when crews from the Gaston Rural Fire District arrived at 5:47 a.m. on Nov. 27. The crew of 20 contained the fire in about seven minutes.
