The tough task of finding a job in this economy just got a bit easier in western Washington County.
On Monday, the Forest Grove Workforce Center opened at 2014 Main St. The center offers free job searches and, for those who qualify, training and placement assistance.
While the staff will focus on helping those looking for jobs, the center also can help link employers with potential employees, according to the center’s Charlotte Lopez.
Workforce Centers, which are scattered throughout the Portland area, are partnerships between the Oregon Employment Department, Portland Community College and WorkSystems, Inc., a nonprofit.
A previous location, on the east side of town, closed about 18 months ago. A center in downtown Hillsboro also closed, making the new location a key resource for job-seekers in western Washington County.
“It’s a very important service,” said Jeff King, the city’s economic development coordinator, who helped line up space, “particularly given the high unemployment here.”
Center hours are 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For details, call 503-747-4067.
