City officials say it will be flown on all federal holidays, weather permitting.
The family is also donating a smaller flag that will be flown most days and a severe weather flag designed to withstand high winds.
An article in last week’s News-Times quoted a city official saying that the Coons requested to fly the ceremonial flag on days of significance to the family. Family members told the paper last week that they have no such plans.
In addition to the flag and flagpole, the Coon family also donated a lighting system for the flag. Until the lights are installed, the flags will be taken down each night, officials have said.
