As the mistakes mounted, Banks football coach Ben Buchanan sensed that Friday’s game was slipping away.
In the end, Banks simply made too many mistakes to win, and the Braves watched their perfect record get washed away with a 10-7 loss to No. 6 La Salle.
“We had opportunities. It was just sloppy football and it cost us,” Buchanan said.
The laundry list of miscues: three interceptions, two fumbled punts, two touchdowns called back on penalties and one potential touchdown pass dropped in the end zone.
It all added up to a frustrating night for Buchanan.
“Too many turnovers,” he said. “It was a rough night.”
La Salle (2-0) erased a 7-0 deficit in the second half, tying the game on Ian Keeney’s 6-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter and winning it on a 44-yard field goal by Austin Thul with 44 seconds left.
