It may be too early in the season to call any game a “must win,” but Forest Grove’s 3-1 girls soccer victory over Canby last Thursday was very important, both for the state playoff chase and for the Lady Vikings’ psyche.
Brandi Dawson scored two goals and Elena Acosta had one as the Lady Vikings snapped a five-game skid in which they had won only once and been outscored 27-10. It also gave Forest Grove a two-point lead over Canby in the standings.
“No question about it, that was a game we had to win,” said Forest Grove coach Joe Sottile. “Now we’re in fourth place. If we can hold on to that, we can get into the playoffs.”
